Electronic Artwork Submission Specifications

Preferred Formats

SPP works with a PDF workflow and this is the preferred format for submission. PDF versions from 1.3 onwards can be accepted with fonts embedded, all colours in CMYK and pictures also in CMYK mode at a resolution not less than 200 dpi.
Other formats that are acceptable are EPS format again with fonts embedded and colours CMYK mode.
Ads can also be supplied in JPEG RGB format but please remember that type will not be sharp in this format.

Transmission methods

Adfast (www.adfast.co.uk) - an online file delivery system -is our preferred method.
We will also accept e-mail and would ask when supplying ads not created in standard page makeup software, i.e. Publisher, Word etc.., that pictures and logos are sent separately and not embedded.

Design Considerations

Small type sizes, especially serifed type, do not reproduce well on newsprint when knocked out of multi-coloured backgrounds.

Mono ads should be made out of black ink and not a four colour simulation of mono.

The TAC (total ink coverage) should be no more than 240%.

When preparing pictures for newspaper advertising the resolution of pictures should be 200 ppi at the size they will be used in the ad.

Newspaper printing is a high speed process and therefore from time to time mis-registration may occur.

Dot gain on our Goss Universial 70 press is 30% therefore Artwork should be adjusted to compensate for this.
